Join other rising high school seniors for a three-session workshop where you’ll create and refine your college application essay.
Work with a group of sympathetic peers who feel pressured to impress strangers at their colleges-of-choice.
Workshop will meet Thursdays— July 7, 14, and 23— at Studio 123 at Mellwood Arts Center, Louisville, for 1.5 hours each time.
Each session will begin at 9:30 AM
Here is what you can expect:
You will brainstorm ideas based on writing prompts, using real-life examples of personal narrative from social networks.
You will learn and practice techniques that make essays unique and appealing to readers.
- Between each class, and preceding the first class, you will complete assignments at home.
- You will receive and provide comments about strengths and needs for improvement.
- You will receive an individual critique from the instructor, focusing on four elements—organization, development, clarity and credibility.
You will craft excellent beginnings and endings.
You will nurture your essay from rough draft to revision.
You will learn how to avoid cliché and other common writing pitfalls.
