Write A Winning College Application Essay

Keep Calm and Write Your EssayJoin other rising high school seniors for a three-session workshop where you’ll create and refine your college application essay.
Work with a group of sympathetic peers who feel pressured to impress strangers at their colleges-of-choice.

Workshop will meet Thursdays— July 7, 14, and 23— at Studio 123 at Mellwood Arts Center, Louisville, for 1.5 hours each time.

Each session will begin at 9:30 AM
Here is what you can expect:

  • You will brainstorm ideas based on writing prompts, using real-life examples of personal narrative from social networks.

  • You will learn and practice techniques that make essays unique and appealing to readers.

  • Between each class, and preceding the first class, you will complete assignments at home.
  • You will receive and provide comments about strengths and needs for improvement.
  • You will receive an individual critique from the instructor, focusing on four elements—organization, development, clarity and credibility.
  • You will craft excellent beginnings and endings.

  • You will nurture your essay from rough draft to revision.

  • You will learn how to avoid cliché and other common writing pitfalls.
